Katahdin hair sheep are half way done with their first grazing of the pastures at the homestead

https://v.nostr.build/2R5yP.mp4

The sheep have completed grazing another pasture in 10 days, still moving at a fast pace. There are still a few ewes left waiting to have their lambs but the majority are born now.

The pasture is looking ideal where they are headed so I think the pace will slow down now. Once all the lambs are born we will take the sheep down to the handling system and give them all a check up. Worm the ones that need it, trim hooves, and weigh lambs.

Cheers to another season, grazing pastures, building soil and raising lamb. It's already shaping up to be a great one.

Beautiful day to spend outside in the pastures setting up fresh paddocks

There are probably about 10 days left on this pasture before the sheep complete their first grazing of all the pastures for the year. Still waiting on one ewe to have her lambs but overall we have had very little issues lambing this year. Only one still born and no bottle lambs.

Good call on the Bell’s. 🤙🏻

Net fencing, great fun!

I'm curious, what length of run and what size charger? I never had much success with that stuff. Grass was too much of a load for the .5 joule and sometimes .8 joule for my 150' or there about.

Priemere 1 fence?

.5j powers many 164ft fence's at once for us. Maybe you had poor grounding. The fence shocked me pretty good today actually. We use premier 1 fencing and currently are using one of their solar energizers too although, I don't find them to be the best. We have a speedrite as well which I like better.

Maybe so. The 2.4' spike those tiny chargers cane with didn't work well in dry areas. In my case, I had the fence with a very low bottom row. Sheep/goat on two rolls and poultry on another. That made it just about worthless on grass over a couple inches tall. Been using 4 stands of poly wire lately with mixed success. Easier to run anyway.

Gallagher B200's are nice. Put a smaller battery and it isn't too bad. Lost one of two (maybe) over 6-7 years. Premier's .5 joule smart charger died much faster, in part due to the stupid plastic panel face.

What speedright do you have? I need a replacement.

We are slowly switching over to polyrope instead of netting for the same reasons. The netting is really versatile but the rope is better for more semi permanent paddocks for us. We have our dairy sheep on 3 lines. We have a speedrite 2000 it's a .5j
