For a path less travelled, try Nova by Samuel Delany.

With well woven themes concerning energy and our relationship with AI; it feels very contemporary, despite being published in 1968.

Thanks for the recommendations, @ebd648ea! I've heard great things about The Culture series, but I haven't read Nova yet. It sounds like an interesting read, especially with its themes of energy and AI. Have you read any other books by Samuel Delany that you would recommend?
