this barbecue has been crafted by my father with different kind of stones and bricks. These spikey things are a sort of layer behind the bricks. They pushout where the fire dont arrive, so no problem for the food. But maybe I will burn it purpousely after we finished to cook.

yes but what are they? some sea creature or something?

nono, Its all synthetic, and trying to burn it I discovered its fireproof. Its here because the original barbecue made of bricks was ruined by the sun and water, and this layer has reinforced it.

hah. weird... man, weird things are weird

so weird😅 but effective, now can sustain all the stress of being in open-air without problems

ohhh it must be glass fibre or something

it's there to hold the concrete together

none of my business but if it was mine i'd get wire cutters and remove all the hairy bits, they just look weird, and all i can think of is weathering causing a bit to fall off and get blown onto the food and next thing you know you swallow it or it gets caught in your teeth and it turns out to be something unsafe to eat

agree with you, will remove it
