Creative (sanity) hack:

Write down every idea, regardless of how big it is, wild it is, dumb it is, or unrelated it is to anything you are currently focusing on. Take the time to get the ideas out of your head. Pull on the threads of the idea and allow them to flow until you hit a ceiling. At that point, file them away and return to whatever you were working on.

Can't pursue every idea, but I learned some years ago that ignoring or suppressing ideas when they strike—particularly for creative projects—isn't healthy either. So now I triage by staying focused on what I need to do while making temporary space for inspiration when it arises. Maybe I'll have time to circle back to the idea, maybe not, but at least it is out of my head. Sometimes these *random* ideas even unpredictably make it into a project I work on months or years later.
