just download Bitcoin core onto an old laptop is the easy cheap route but I hear it’s not the best experience. If you have like $500-1k you could also do a plug and play personal server like start9 or Thebitcoinmachines

I hear it’s good! I don’t use it though. I’ve been using Umbrel but am starting to want to explore some open source node software like Raspblitz soon when I build my new node.
