The time stamps "... minutes ago" can't be right...

Timestamps are not accurate in bitcoin. You can place any timestamp you like in a range which is defined as 2 hours before or after the median time of the last ten blocks.

If I remember correctly 😅

Something like that, but mempools.space should be calculating block time, and time since last block, with their own node's clock, no?

They could, but they just show the timestamp of the block.

The “time since last block” is always relative to a specific node because not all nodes receive a new block at the same time.

It’s possible that your node receives a new block half a minute later than mempool.space or the other way around. Or a node can receive block x+1 before block x

This time problem is the reason why we have a blockchain. It’s not possible to say which order of events is the correct one when it comes to decentralized networks. It’s a extremely complex topic

Does that explain why nostr:npub1ypznd87pzkcn352r37vd8s5ez6vxe877dwpq8alls6vlp7hwrjfspp27hc screenshot of mempool shows blocks in order with strange "time since" between them?

Exactly

🤔

Happens all the time

Also..

Dig through blocks and you'll find TX's paying fees of 0 sats/vbyte confirmed.

Happens all the time

Out of band payments

This is the suckiest part about miners. And should be considered poor etiquette really.

No class really.

This is completely normal in the process of mining withe current state of the stratum protocol

After a block was found you need some seconds to build a new block template and transmit it to all the miners. In the meantime miners are using an empty block template so that the asics don’t have to stop working. If a block is found in this small amount of time an empty block will be added to the chain.

It’s not the result of mean miners who don’t want to add transactions to the block. It’s a technical problem that will be fixed with the new stratum v2 protocol

They can choose not to use the empty template and wait 1 second.

This doesn’t make sense! If I find a block while my miner is in idle mode with an empty block template I add the block, otherwise I would give up a block reward of 6.25 bitcoin.

Would you say no when someone offers you 6.25 bitcoin for free? Don’t think so!

You think miners will mine empty blocks I. 2150? I don’t think so.

It was me!!!

Na na na naah na!
