I mean, yeah, you could forget your child somewhere too, but in general we tend take care of the important things. In the case of self custody, it’s radically simple to have bomb proof backups and that’s the point: I trust my back up waaaaay more than I trust the bank to have my money

It's a matter of trade-offs. People like you and me are perfectly fine taking the self-custody of our assets and we're fine with the risk of not having a remedial process when something goes awry. Most people aren't there.
