I think this trend is more of a result of organized religions using people as live stock to annually give a large % of their income to the church. The Bible doesn’t say to give your money to church, it says in Leviticus 27:30: "A tithe of everything from the land, whether grain from the soil or fruit from the trees, belongs to the Lord; it is holy to the Lord. The lord is not church or a man made assembly of people imo and so I agree with the spiritualists that this is absurd. That said, I do think there is something about community and support that spiritualism doesn’t address.

That certainly happens, tragically. But "the workman is worthy of his wages," so we ought to support our faithful ministers who labor in the ministry of the Word.
