There's still the aspect of discoverability on Meetup. But even that they don't do very well, and they screw up everything else.
Nostr-native app seamlessly integrated onto the ecosystem can provide many value adds.
My pain points with Meetup:
- many basic functions are hidden behind the login-wall
- they provide my email to the event/group organizer without possibility to opt out
- they keep shotgun-deleting my email alias registration attempts
- their search interface and search results are an absolute horror; especially on the web. The default relevance sort is a matter for itself ("Bitcoin - Austin" -> first 8 results are for "austin crypto meetup" with barely any attendance)
- notification spam about events I never showed any interest in
- conversations and connections are buried in the silo
- streams (zaps, media sharing, tickets e-commerce, ... anything...) aren't natively supported
So from an outsider pow, it's the classic low hanging fruit. 2 weeks till Flockstr obsoletes them.
