there is a bulb called snowdrop that is said by bulgarians to be the herald of spring
it also grows here in madeira, and i have noticed in the last week or so many of them blooming

the bulgarian word for this flower is "kokiche" and i lived on a street named this in Varna on the black sea coast in 2022
it's very similar to the serbo-croatian word "kokice" (kokitste) which is their name for popcorn, not hard to see the connection i think?
