It’s another emerging decentralized twitter alternative, started at twitter by Jack, but spun off before he left. It’s got potential, but still has a lot of catching up to do.

It’s invite-only for now. I’d be willing to try it just to report back, but it’s the users and community vibe that make the network worthwhile. Being surrounded by people who have attached their identity to the mother asshole of shitcoins doesn’t exactly inspire my confidence.

That guy was the first person with .eth in their name that I've seen there.

Probably because it’s still a closed beta.

It makes me .eth tchou 🤧

Bluesky is definitely made up of an interesting user base. The way I see it, there seems to be people from all different types of social circles and walks of life, instead of one community dominating. There’s pros and cons to that - pro: not an echo chamber, broader conversations ; con: there’s no community feel (right now). I think it can be juxtaposed from nostr in this way, where nostr started with the bitcoin community as the base layer of users, and at bluesky it’s starting with some people from hundreds of different communities as it’s base layer of users. Will be interesting to see how each grows from these base layers.

Sure, and people will naturally and even unconsciously self-select tribes to join, and cross-pollenate with others. I hope BlueSky succeeds in its mission and doesn’t just become another place where mainstream narratives drive every conversation and self-important people who bring hoards of their own followers become the dominant voices.
