I did this over 10 years ago but only an 80-90 mins away from the nearest city.

I worked in that city commuting each day but slowly managed to work mostly from home.

I'm now largely retired but feeling like I want to move further out. Wife & kids not so much.

That feeling of being trapped hit during covid era. Our country closed it's borders stopping its citizens from leaving. I wanted out, almost entirely because the govt wouldn't let me leave.

I love our land & the community it's within. It's mostly a quiet & simple life but I still feel vulnerable to the swings of the next great fear that will surely come.

My plan is to acquire some land within an hours drive before 2028. A place we can escape to of things turn nasty again.

There's a lot to be said for staying with people who look like you, speak the same language & share similar values. It's too late IMO to try & integrate into a community somewhere else. When times are tough people tend to turn on the outsiders first.

Good luck with the move. Always let intuition drive your action rather than your fears.
