LN NODE debate for anyone who is up to:

I have been in BTC arena for several years, reading tons of informations. Long before opening my LN node (recently), I came to the conclusion that it is nearly impossible to make it profitable (right now) unless you run it as a business and lots of time and dedication is invested. I set up the node, pretty much convinced that I want to do it to contribute to the network rather than reach profitability.

If my above approach is correct (maybe is not and everyone should be looking for profit?), I am VERY interested to hear you out:

- do you agree with the above?

- Do you have recommendation for LN node operators who are not necessarily looking for immediate profit? What strategies do you advise?

- Do you advise on with who to open channels with and with who dont?

- Fee structure recommendation?

- Any comments?

I would be supper happy to hear your opinion, ideas, etc... Not necessarily related to my above questions!

Please feel free to REPOST and spread it. I am genuinely interested in reading your comments.

Thanks!

I started with an idea very similar to yours, not with the intention of generating profit but rather to support the network and out of mere curiosity.

It's been more than a year since that start and I can say that my little node (037c65e34444c37deaccde1f61f03b93e22b3d7451894d836f60132ee5a6f486ed) does generate more than it spends, it's not a big profit but at least not losing sats, after certain software failures (LND), forced closes at times with the mempool at +300 sats/vB as we have seen a couple of months ago, I consider it a great success.

We are still alive albeit with some scarring haha.

There is one tool that I consider a must have and I am very grateful to its dev.

I will help you as much as my experience allows me, for me it is a very entertaining hobby with its risks.

Great info nostr:npub104j2xzlg4nl26cvxyzln3ccyt4pfk5zmj6tvgshtl4kmx5rgrf2qx6eav8, truly helpful to read that you also have a similar view. I will definetily reach you out for tips in the future. Thanks for sharing.

I always find this guides of nostr:npub1lxktpvp5cnq3wl5ctu2x88e30mc0ahh8v47qvzc5dmneqqjrzlkqpm5xlc the best place to read about this, is a good resume https://darthcoin.substack.com/p/managing-lightning-node-liquidity and you can jump to others useful articles. In my case, as a router node in a bad environment (Tor Only), I try to open channel with business or node operators that I know, in the long run, it's the best. And... 99% is to help the network, later we will focus on profits... first... we need to kill the banks :)

Fully agreed Nikotsla. Indeed nostr:npub1lxktpvp5cnq3wl5ctu2x88e30mc0ahh8v47qvzc5dmneqqjrzlkqpm5xlc set a milestone with his guides.🎩🎩🎩
