To become a real political player, Bitcoin would have to increase its donations exponentially, matching what Wall Street or the oil and gas industries give—at least $50 million a year. “We have to be realists,” Coinbase CEO Brian Armstrong said. “Money moves the needle.”
“We’re going to be able to take the vision that we had for Bitcoin and implement it into the real world,” Bailey said. “I couldn’t be more excited for the orange presidency to begin and the birth of the orange party.” (Bitcoin Magazine’s CEO, David Bailey was referring to Bitcoin’s orange logo, not Trump’s ocher hue.)
Fairshake’s lobbying effort had paid off, too. Its top target, Ohio’s Brown, lost his seat, and the Senate flipped to Republican control, potentially making way for ranking GOP member Tim Scott, who’s pro-crypto, to lead the banking committee.
Fairshake and affiliated groups had spent $135 million, and by Thursday, 47 of the 56 candidates they backed had won their races.
Crypto already accounts for more than 15% of all known corporate spending since 2010, second only to the oil and gas industry, according to the nonprofit Public Citizen. Fairshake says it has already lined up $78 million for the 2026 midterms.
