Osram is now selling LED light bulbs that they claim can last 50 years (based on a three hour/d day usage).

If that is true, it's a great development over the universal 1000-hour lifetime of the incandescent light bulbs of the past century. More of this please.

Do you worry about the additional EMR generated by some LED bulbs?

Not at all. I worry about cheap LEDs but the emissions to be wary of is high-frequency sonic noise , not EMR (led emr is much lower than both halogen and incandescent bulbs due to the fact that they barely draw any current).

I do wonder if some cheap bulbs are just trash about that, though...

You can use your snartphones microphones to scan for noise though! Use any spectroscope near any bulbs you have, with an active sampling rate of 44,1 kHz, you can detect sonic noise up to 22,05 kHz (any noise above that is well above audible range).

Interesting.

Regarding long lasting lights, this is definitely worth a watch:

Dubai lamp?! 😆 Lovely, great tip, thank you!

Saw this video years ago, your post triggered some latent memory and YT search-fu was working nicely. Good luck finding these btw.

He has some other video's where he modified normal LED lights to underpower them making them last forever.

LED light bulbs are manufactured to fail by oversteering the power electronics. If they would be constructed properly, there's nothing that needs to break.
