Taken at face value, Universal Franchise Democracy is profoundly stupid, because it core conceit is that everyone who survives until age 18 is equally qualified to steer a polity of millions of people. It's hard to think of anything more observably untrue.

Given the reality of Universal Franchise Democracy, that it's a total sham, it is the most tyrannical political system ever devised, more harmful to the population it rules over than any of the worst absolute monarchs of antiquity. In practice, Universal Franchise Democracy is a political obfuscation engine, a way for the elites that rule you to launder responsibility onto worthless, constantly-replaced figureheads, and even onto the very victims themselves of the elite's myriad evils, i.e. the "voters". At least under a tyrannical, abusive absolute monarch, if the people are being fucked, everyone and their dog knows exactly who's fucking them.
