did he hold on to it himself/ receive it/ put it anywhere to your knowledge? what is the protocol with such relics?

I read some book about Apparitions of the VIrgin Mary and i found it fascinating that they often happen to young down & out peasant children. They tell their parents/town and often are disbelieved by the church until it's such a popular bottom-up movement that the officials have to include it into their canons.
