I went back to ask the OP on nostr:npub1jfujw6llhq7wuvu5detycdsq5v5yqf56sgrdq8wlgrryx2a2p09svwm0gx and here was his reply. With that said, I think Nostr only supports NWC for zaps and a Lightning address is required to receive.

That's right alby receives zaps through an lightning address.

Yup. So NWC receive is great for wallets that don’t have a Lightning address (e.g. plebs that are running a node without a public IP).
