But then you are paying retail markup

I have a local store that I use, and the markup isn’t too bad. I feel the need to patronize that store, because there’s nowhere else I can get a LPT port adapter or a stick of DDR1 ram or a pentium 1 processor to resurrect that old industrial machine in the middle of the workday while simultaneously being able to buy a RTX4090.

Seriously. I miss computer stores. We only have one now.

They're so few and far between unfortunately. It's probably a logistical nightmare to fully stock a computer store and keep up with new parts that'll sell without bagholding deprecated tech

I imagine so. The chip shortage gave them the guarantee of selling gfx cards out for a while at least 🤣

I admit Amazon is just so convenient. But sometimes I need that part or cable *now*. They’ve saved my life several times in the last few months. And this owner’s respect for legacy technology has won me over.

Yeah admittedly ive also done my share of last minute Amazon purchases.

Sometimes monoprice.com has decently priced stuff available as well.

But unfortunately, I haven't been able to find a local computer parts store near me that actually has legacy parts.
