NIP-05 is a form of identity here.

The @handlenames you see are not unique - so NIP-05 acts as an identifier that's tied to you.

They associate your public key(npub) with a domain/website, which is supposed to verify that it's indeed you who is using this Nostr account.

Devs/techies who have their own domain can use that but others use services like nostrplebs.com

uselessshit.co/resources/nostr has some guides on NIP-05

Thanks for answering. Is something we HAVE to do or it’s ok?

It will be inappropriate for me to answer this as I don't have a NIP-05 😬 but majority of the people here do.

Maybe someone on the #plebchain who understands the ecosystem can answer this objectively

Good site to bookmark for many FAQ

Bonus tip in your keyboard settings make "npub" a shortcut for your publickey
