ideally, no, but it's ok. but, you'll want any wood that just got rained on to be allowed to dry off before burning. we would bring in wet wood and let it dry by the fire before burning. and, all wood was "seasoned " at least a year before we burned it.
also, some 1" wood could be used to frame out & hold the "roof" flat for more coverage.
