Agree. I advocated against this initially.
Especially as most polls are just fun stuff, you just want to tap your vote not faff about. (I mean it's hard to tell cos not all client support polls atm,) but theyre so under used and I would say that might be partly due to this mechanism ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
