Creative destruction is a concept in economics that describes a process in which new innovations replace and make obsolete older innovations. The concept refers more broadly to the linked processes of the accumulation and annihilation of wealth under capitalism. Darwin wrote in 1859, in the origin of species that the “extinction of old forms is the almost inevitable consequence of the production of new forms”.
