-THE ISLAND LIFE-

KEPENEK is a traditional garment worn by Turkish shepherds, designed to resemble a thick, tent-like cloak. Made from felt, this sleeveless and buttonless covering drapes over the shoulders and envelops the body entirely.

Typically white with occasional decorative elements, kepeneks can be up to one centimeter thick and are sold by weight. Dry, they weigh about 6kg, but exposure to rain can increase their weight to as much as 10kg.

Beyond serving as clothing, kepeneks are versatile enough to act as temporary shelters, providing warmth and protection for nomadic shepherds in cold weather.
