Not sure if it’s still around but there used to be an Ubuntu distro called Ubuntu Studio that was packed with tons of free open source software and tools for creatives. Gimp is one of my all time favorites.
GIMP https://www.gimp.org/ , MyPaint, http://mypaint.org/ and Inkscape, https://inkscape.org/ are great open source programs found on LinuxMint.
