nostr:npub1gcxzte5zlkncx26j68ez60fzkvtkm9e0vrwdcvsjakxf9mu9qewqlfnj5zit would be really cool if Amethys search and tagging is more reliable. I love everything else about it already.
# My experience after boarding thousands of people to Nostr.
Bitcoiners are easy, as we are familiar with keys management.
"This is your private key, it's randomly generated, you'll need it to sign your messages and you'll need to keep it safe, like your Bitcoin private keys. And this is your public key, people can find you with this."
then points them to a tutorial on setting up NIP-05 verification, NIP-07 login, etc.
But for normies, (and even crypto bros who still think their account of a trading website is their wallet) all of that will be super intimidating.
A lot of clients have been trying to make the experience smoother, hiding private keys, auto nip-05 generation, etc. but key management discussion will come up when there's a need to 'log in' somewhere else, ie, a laptop or a tablet.
## What I think will help.
A key management app that works on both mobile and desktop. Encrypted key syncing between clients, works as a signing app on mobile and maybe a browser extension on desktop, a plus if it's also a Lightning wallet, double plus if non-custodial. Whoever did this will become the go to onboarding method which could be beneficial for LN node runners.
## User retention
After finally getting their keys sorted, the second, most difficult thing is to get them to *stay*
New users are greeted with empty feeds, irrelevant home feeds, and an unreliable search function.
I agree with nostr:npub1sg6plzptd64u62a878hep2kev88swjh3tw00gjsfl8f237lmu63q0uf63m here, we need a better search and indexing service. But this service doesn't come without a cause and no one should be doing it for charity. I think apps should have it's own client-side / customizable algorithm for discovery, a lot of apps are already implementing this and people are using hashtag and hashtag follow functions but there should also be a reliable indexing service, I see service providers and app developers paying for these service in the future but there's a need to get the money flowing.
## Other stuff
Money and crisis drive innovation, we see a lot of non-custodial wallets rolling new Nostr specific features after the incident with WoS, but what will make it sustainable is to increase the value of the network. Forget ad revenue for a bit, this is where I see development in 'Other Stuff' coming in. Marketplaces, data vending machines, AI bots, community management platform, note taking services, etc. many of these exist today but it'll take some time to become truly usable, once they are and value is created, people will be using Bitcoin for more than zaps, which in turn will create economic value to the network, attracting more value, growing and incentivizing better service infrastructures.
It might seem counter intuitive to focus on those use case before sorting out onboarding and user retention problems, but I think that it might be necessary, so for you early adopters, seek out new, fun things to use, try them, give feedback, zap to support, and help grow the 'other stuff' and I believe that will result in a better overall development of the whole network.
