The apparel industry is a significant contributor to environmental pollution, using an estimated 5 trillion liters of water each year and releasing massive carbon emissions. A UK-based start-up, Alchemie Technology, claims to have developed a digital dyeing process that can significantly reduce waste and energy consumption. The company's machine, called Endeavour, uses inkjet printing principles to rapidly fire dye onto fabric, reducing water consumption by 95% and energy consumption up to 85%. While the technology is promising, experts caution that more information is needed on long-term studies of fabric durability and potential issues with the fixing process.
