I have cycles of highs and lows as an artist … sometimes I feel super inspired and am creating work I love, while other times I don’t like my work and feel unmotivated…

All I can do during these lulls is to stay consistent and keep creating because I know I’ll thank myself later for sticking with it 😤✨

any other artists feel this way? #artstr

Absolutely. I used to write a lot about the process of being an artist- and throughout my life there have always been ebbs and flows of inspiration. It can also get obsessive to try to understand my inspiration patterns sometimes 😂 gotta just try to go with the flow

It’s hard not to beat yourself up when you’re feeling uninspired though.

so true, I try to go with the flow too 😂 What do you think inspires you the most?

Works the same way in music, sometimes I’ll have periods where things are sharp and I’m enjoying my own playing, and then long stretches where I can’t play a single note that I don’t hate… used to think I’d get over these cycles but from learning more about the world, seems like cycles are present in more or less everything

It feels a bit like a high to get into the flow state and a bit like withdrawal when you struggle to attain it. Life has rhythms that are reflected in creative patterns.

I think fallow periods feed productive periods. Much like a field is left fallow to allow a larger yield when it’s planted.
