Yay! That’s the best way to support yourself, the community, the economy, the natural world. It’s assuredly the hardest work I’ve ever done, but it’s the most rewarding. Getting over myself at the farmers markets has been my first, biggest hurdle; overcoming an earlier uppity mindset. Bees have the most therapeutic effect on one’s work ethic, once one sees how diligently and unselfishly (to the death) they support their hive.

We're a group of friends who are all invested in this commercial project which is akin to a tiny ecosystem. It will be compromised of:

Sheep herding for meat, fats, fur and blood. Fats will be used for tallow and making soap, Blood for compost.

Bee farming for honey and pollination of crops.

Crop farming for livestock feed, our feed, soap making (fragrant flowers) and for the bees.

A huge water basin for fish farming and watering of crops.

This project is turning out to be much bigger than anticipated but we're taking it head on.

Don’t forget to harvest your beeswax (very expensive wax for candles and sold outright), and propolis (also very expensive). If you’re harvesting honey, go ahead and have a place for your wax, and propolis to be kept aside for those who makes tinctures. You will have to be dealing with them anyway, so don’t short yourself by allowing the wax to become mixed with honey and propolis (rendering it unusable for candle-burning).
