This extraordinary artifact illustrates the dramatic sacrifice of Polyxena, the daughter of King Priam of Troy, as she is offered by Neoptolemus at the tomb of Achilles, an event observed by local women. This touching tableau echoes through history, embodying a tragic moment from ancient times.

Interestingly, the tumulus where this sarcophagus was found has been referred to as ""Kızöldün Tumulus"" by the local populace for centuries.
