Secure elements are a shitcoin. I said it.

Did you get your fourth double secure element booster? Oh sorry, there was a new side channel attack. Better buy the new booster secure element.

Just curious, what’s the cons of secure elements?

They expire due to cat-and-mouse nature of the industry game theory. An SE is invented to address new attack vectors, so new attack vectors arise that new SE's must address. Deciding to trust a device to store keys locks you into a perpetual upgrade cycle. You are forever signing up for the new booster.

A better cold storage strategy is bang the words into steel, and buy a hardware wallet on the rare occassion that you need to tap into generational wealth.

An even better strategy is just store the steel seed backups with an amnesic signing device, like a SeedSigner or Specter DIY, and use that for ypur recovery scenario. No ColdCard Mark 9Q+ booster needed.
