Can these small devices really run a full node??
Discussion
Of course 👍. Mine is a Raspberry Pi with 8gb ram linked to a 1tb external hd running Umbrel . It's on 24/7 for routing lightning payments.
You can use an old laptop or smth if you want.
Doesn’t use it a lot of electricity? I’m from Europe so I need to watch out for the electricity prices 😅
Me too 🇪🇺. It's nothing, it's not a miner. Just a Pi. Unnoticeable.
Guess I have to start stacking for a node setup
Almost none. Also, you can get a passive Raspberry Pi case (like a FLIRC) and it won't even have a fan. So even less electricity and perfectly silent.
Interesting!! Will look up a bit about this and start saving for a setup
Super easy, brother. You can use myNode (free version is fine) or Umbrel (is there a free version? - I think so). All you'll need is a RPi, case, power source, a SS TB drive and an SD card and a cable. There are lots of great tutorials out there. Check out #[2] youtube for a great starter vid.

Will do! Getting hyped

So hyped!! First saving a bit 🙏🏼
My node cost me about $170 all together. Flashed #[6] on it. So worth it!
4GB RaspberryPi 4
2TB SSD
Yeah, really reasonably priced.
I think the hardest part is sourcing a RPi (they were a bit hard to find there for a while during the "pandemic") and then waiting for the IBD (initial block download - can take a few days and drive you crazy!). But truly not hard to do.
Yeah it is hard. I just had to degen bid for them on ebay. Definitely paid more than I should have, but they’re like unicorns now!
Jez fuck, that escalated quickly 😬.
Disregard the sabrent, it fried pretty fast, got another case in exchange.
Look at those prices, it's sick.
Buy #Bitcoin mates! There's no other way.

Or buy 100 Pi at 82 and wait 2 years 😂. Too late...
Still, eh? What a shame. Someone here was talking about just buying old windows windows comps for <$250 and that included hard drives, etc. and using them as a your node++
Thanks! Is umbrel possible on a iPad or iPhone?
Nope
Not possible on iPad or iPhone, I’ve been trying to run it on a windows 11 machine with WSL2 and have had limited success, about to bite the bullet and buy a raspberry pi or another Linux machine to run it.
Nope, you can only host on linux based systems. Or flash the Umbrel OS on a Pi
No, not much I have the feeling that if you leave the lightbulb on over night it uses more!
100%. A full node++ Very easily.
