Call me crazy, but I'd rather have explicit taxes than inflation. And if the whole tariff thing has taught us anything, it's that the inflation tax is way way way worse than any of these explicit taxes.

Not crazy at all.

Inflation is the worst, followed by property taxes, then income taxes, and sales tax the least evil.

US perspective, anyway.

explicit taxes are in many cases a choice.

inflation is not.

That’s a rational take. Taxes are paid voluntarily. Debasement removes agency from the equation.

The tariffs and inflation takes years to come to effect for you guys. It just started enjoy the ride. Eventually all western countries will join the rest of the world in terms of real wages. This has been the goal for decades and what you see now is the final leveling of the playing field IMO.

The American dream I grew up with:

Debt for go to college

Buy a house you’ll never own.

Pay taxes on gains you didn’t make.

Work 60 hours to afford eggs, insurance, and gas.

Save for retirement and watch inflation devour it.

Start a business and get taxed / regulated into the ground.

Own nothing.

Owe everything.

Rely on government for hand outs.

Explicit taxes should be in the form of a national sales tax. Everyone has skin in the game. You buy a Lambo, you pay more. You buy a 15 year old Chevy, you pay less. It's so simple. It allows the people to control their lives.

Dollar inflation allows for taxing the whole world - that's much more powerful than domestic taxes.

"I'd rather have a dick in my mouth where I can see it than one in my butt where I can't".... sounds like you might be gay

Explicit taxes there already are. Inflation is just the "invisible" addition to those.

Inflation is theft.

Got #Bitcoin?

Inflation is insidious

Nope.

My groceries didn’t and won’t go up 40% this year *and* every year after that because of the tariffs.

If stuff does cost more I’ll have the money first, with the opportunity to buy bitcoin and hedge against inflation, then later pay the higher cost. They take the income tax 40% before I see it, removing this benefit.

Tariff boogeyman is only bad if Trump. Tariffs are all over the world all the time. But it’s only bad if Trump does a thing.
