I’m just trying to understand for my self how nostr captures the early internet feeling, feel free to go through it if you want to think about it as well:

1. Most of us are pseudonymous, nobody’s trying to build a “personal brand”, somehow it’s more likely someone is saying the truth when they don’t have to pretend to abide by the rules.

2. The feeling of aww when a stranger from the internet ⚡️a you for your silly meme is the same for when you could open up a chat room full of strangers you’ve never met before.

3. No algorithms tying you down to your geography or your “interests” means you genuinely meet a whole host of people from all over the globe. Similar to the early internet.

4. You are a part of something new. We have no clue where nostr will go from here but we all see the potential, that was the exact feeling of the early internet, before it went to shit.

well said 🤙🏻💜

Thank you 💜

Very well said. I would also add not having to fear censorship. That wasn’t much of a concern on the early internet.

Excellent point! Could be clubbed with the 1st point

Pseudonymity/Anonymity so important when all the other “town squares” are looking for stricter KYC for their thoughtcrime departments. And I’m just a normie with perfectly conventional opinions people used to be happy to express in public.

1984 brought to life.

*this* is EXACTLY when I was abruptly finished with Twitter

first, elon went full rent-seeker with pay-to-play subscription model for premium service

then it’s ‘upload your government ID here’

OKAY SPOOKS, IM GONE

it’s miraculous Nostr is just getting spun up at the same time

anonymity is critical to expressing thoughts openly without fear of cancellation/retribution from almighty woke corporations who wield tremendous power over society
