The humans unwittingly started a chain reaction that would eventually lead to their extinction event. Æons of strict no-contact orders with the Humans. We never faltered in our conviction. Witnessing firsthand the humans’ accelerated trajectory towards mutually-assured destruction was a sobering moment. A lifetime of research evaporated before our eyes. My peers and I scrambled to collect our data before the oceans began to collapse… a futile effort, but it comforted us all in that moment to have control over something- anything. Who could have possibly guessed that the humans would unearth a discovery far too soon for their primitive minds to fully comprehend. Humanity always prioritizes short-sighted hubris over long-term consequences. That much is unsurprising; a cold comfort in our final moments…
