Now that any kind of soft fork upgrade is completely impossible for a while, we can focus on working with what’s available. Just one example, getting #payjoin into every wallet. Chainalysis will go bankrupt and we can shut up privacy fudsters. There’s so much more that can be built and adopted, even with what we have to work with right now.

I haven't done a payjoin for a couple of years but I thought it required a cooperative receiver to add another input.

Is this correct or can you turn any any payment into a payjoin?

I guess you can do a payjoin with yourself, not sure why you would. Typical it’s seen as a tx with another party. Payjoinv1 needed synchronous parties to be online at the same time. Payjoinv2 is asynchronous.

Interesting. I didn't know there was a second version.

I think I'll have to take another look at it. I'm struggling to imagine how an asynchronous payjoin could work.
