I have no idea, however I suspect patent laws are a driver here.
Patent laws effectively lock an early innovation down to a single team/company to make it valuable before running out of money. The risk of not getting it right first-time, every-time is insane. Patents stagnate innovation.
The counter argument is that patents enable larger investments, since the exclusive reward may be bigger (if all goes well). Honestly, I don’t buy it. Let free market work without spreading fear that investments will dry up.
