Interesting, I have a couple of hundred metres of ground to cover though. That's a lot of tarpaulin. This would also probably kill the grass?

it'll kill everything that germinates and tries to grow.

you can also use clear plastic. Just weigh down the ends and sides with rocks so the heat can't escape. the sun will kill seeds 2 inches down.
