A properly Christian view is that we are not only body nor spirit but both. When we interact, it is not that we manipulate shells to interface with the person behind the other shell, but those bodies interacting are the persons as much as the minds that control the bodies.
This is evidenced especially by the Incarnation. The person of Christ is the body as much as the spirit, and this is the gospel, that God became one of us to redeem our nature and bring new life. Human nature, the soul or form of humanity, is the rational animal: rational to mean we have minds and free will, and animal to mean that our physical bodies are animated.
