Yes, it’s very much an on-demand, “it should all just work for me” mentality, but as we know, with convenience comes major tradeoffs.

I wanted something like #nostr, but I didn’t know what that was, and when I found it, it all clicked, it all made sense.

It’s a very similar experience that people have described when discovering #bitcoin. That thing that you were searching for but didn’t know what it was or where to find it—until it found you.

The example I gave of mIRC before, that was it for me, really. Pre-"social media".

Nostr, for now, is kind of a return to that, and that's why I'm also so adamant against people trying to make it like Twitter. We do not need "features" or a "platform" or "algorithms" to TALK TO PEOPLE.

Anyone asking for any of that is really just looking for ways to grift on other people.

Agree very much with that. And feel the same way about the feeling I personally get from the good olden days of the internet.

I don’t bemoan scaling new companies or integrating nostr into existing companies and infrastructure, but for the fact I have no control over any of it.

That said, true user freedom means the freedom to opt out of the gilded shackles of the gated internet community and its ruling class.
