The “stubborn refusal” of the eleven to believe that Jesus had risen may be partly due to the female messengers, but it was more than that. Male followers who later saw Jesus verified their report to Thomas, yet Thomas would not believe them either. We now call him Doubting Thomas, but he did believe after he saw the risen Lord for himself. “Blessed are those who have not seen yet believe.”
