It's been unseasonably dry (and unseasonably hot / cold / wet all around) and the compost had stalled even with some attention to keeping it damp.

Well I tried using a dilute solution of molasses (it's cheap around here as it's a stock food supplement).... and was amazed that the process restarted, ramped-up and escalated to a point where the compost is breaking down faster than ever before.

Obviously the extra nutrients for the microbiota were the solution.

The Nigel Palmer book of Regenerative garden solutions has molasses as a nutritional boost. However, molasses is relatively costly here in southern Minnesota. #compost, #compostodon.

Maybe sugar water could replace molasses? Not sure if molasses is beneficial in other ways. Does this book go into what this nutritional boost consists of?
