Long-term (that is 20 years and beyond), the US is going to marginalise and eventually kill its own currency by way of overinflation, because there just is no fiscal discipline in the halls of power in the USA, and history has ample examples of how states treat their economuc life-blood.

The only way this can be prevented is if the USA develops and maintains an effective monopoly on a technology that produces an astounding payoff compared to investment and operating cost (think super high ereoi space tech or the like), and it's certainly not impossible, but the window of opportunity for the US to do that is closing.
