A lot of people may not remember or were around to experience it. In order to do Web Of Trust one needed to validate another's identity before digitally signing for them. PGP key parties were had in person to perform live verifications for example. Are you willing to do this for all your Nostr friends, or would one simply and blindly sign away a trust verification? I foresee the latter.

If this group of users can't get together for key signings ...... might not scale

If your own reputation is tied to the validity of what you represent to a particular WoT system, you'll be more careful.

I imagine a nuanced, "Level of Trust" system:

0) I know this person and would trust them to babysit my grandchild

1) I work with them, they're OK

2) I see them occasionally, they seem nice

3) Met them online, they seem solid

4) Online, prolly not a bot...šŸ¤”

5) Online, sketchy as hell...

6) Who the heck is THIS?

That's the gist, could be refined/scored in many ways.😃

This is exactly why I have never sold any artwork online, and likely never will. I don’t know enough about technology to trust someone I’ve never seen in person with 20 hours of my time to create a picture. This ā€œtrustlessā€ culture makes my head hurt.

If I were in your shoes I imagine I’d want some kind of real world connection before selling or commissioning a piece. And it would be a case by case basis.

So at this stage of the game, perhaps nostr could just be one tool to get your artwork out there for people to see. And hopefully we can make it more useful over time!

Agreed! Thanks for the encouragement. Now that my site is up here finally, maybe some more folks will take notice. Minecraft wasn’t built in a day.

The key is a hierarchical ability to revoke your WoT endorsement.

When you revoke a bad actor, you also revoke everyone that bad actor brought into the web too.

The branch gets cut off, then the market re-evaluates the leftover pieces of that branch, to decides who to endorse back into the WoT. Carefully, so their sponsor doesn't cut them off.
