She leaves the room from the window
Wearing the same thing she got at the thrift store
She makes her way to the cafe where she had met her asset
There's an old woman standing outside as if she's looking for someone
She walks right passed the old woman as if not to notice her
She hardly did
She orders a coffee
And waits
And waits
And waits
After some time the old woman walks in and drops a piece of crumpled up paper at her feet
Excuse ma'am
You dropped something
Her face twists up
She snarls
No
I
Didn't
And in a huff she walks to the bathroom
She thinks this feels familiar
She's seen this woman before
So she picks up the piece of paper
There's a location
And a message reads
Under the bridge
Is where you'll find me
We'll carry on
Just look and you'll see
If you don't show up by noon
We will all meet our doom
I mean this sincerely
We need to meet again soon
She already wasted so much time
She needed to steal another car
She starts walking down the street wondering where she should look first
She sees the 7-11 up ahead and thinks maybe she can ask for directions
As she approaches someone gets out of their car and leaves it running
Everything in her is saying this is a bad idea
But she doesn't have time
She jumps in the car and takes off
Speeding away she sees someone in the rearview mirror chasing her and yelling
She turns down a side street and presses the gas harder
After another minute she notices the GPS touchscreen
Fuck!
She beats the steering wheel
She starts looking at the map until she finds the bridge
She notices an area with several parking garages
All she has to do is get as close as she can and ditch the car
Then she hears the sirens
A cop is coming up behind her quickly
She starts weaving in and out of traffic
Making sharp last minute turns
And reaching into her bag
She pulls out a cloth and starts wiping her prints
First the inside
The. She reaches out and wipes the handle
She clips a parked car and almost looses control but she keeps driving faster and faster
She finds a road on a steep hill and turns onto it
The road comes out near the river
She can just jump out and have the car crash into the water
She accelerates until she thinks the vehicle has reached its limit and starts climbing out the window
The car is swerving
She looks around
There's no place for a soft landing
The vehicle swerves again and almost throws her
Terrified she climbs back in
She makes a sharp turn onto another street and zigzags her way towards the river
She notices train tracks
She starts driving on the tracks and accelerates again
She can hear the sirens but cannot see the cops
The car is steady now
She starts looking for the best spot to jump out
Then she hears the train coming
She needs to do this now
She throws open the driver door
Then the passenger door
She jumps out of the passenger side
And scrambles for the nearest bush big enough to conceal her
A moment later she sees the cop speed by
Then she hears the crash
The train flies past
Dragging pieces of the vehicle with it
She runs towards the river and down the bank
After walking around a bend she can see the bridge
Just a few miles
When she gets there she doesn't see anyone
She isn't even sure if she made it on time
She starts looking under rocks
In little holes
Nothing
She looks up
Studying the structural beams
She sees a black strap hanging down
She climbs up and grabs it
A small carry on sized bag
Stuffed with clothes
A fake passport
A fake ID
Some binoculars
Night vision and thermal cameras
A brochure for a safari experience in Africa
A plane ticket
And instructions
She needed to go to the nearest airport and head to Africa
She was going to receive training and collect another new identity
then head home
But home was Kuwait
She sighs and asks herself
Is she ever going to get out of this
