I experienced it from the recipient's perspective a few years ago, when I ran into one of my professors from my first year of college, a very serious and formal man. He helped me overcome a very difficult time in my life. He believed in me before anyone else, and I hadn't seen him for about fifteen years. I still don't know what I said or did to make him so happy. I only remember how he said goodbye: with a kiss on each cheek and a hug.
