That's a common opinion.

My opinion is that they are extremist freedom fighters possibly following old-testament rules of "an eye for an eye" in a collective sense, and as such Hamas is trying to eventually kill as many Jews as Jews have killed of them, which means they think they have a hell of a lot more eyes to take. Even according to Jews, they have the law of an eye for an eye, and also their Noahide law of justice requires them to carry it out. Both sides are required to retaliate or else they are sinning. Due to asymmetric capability, Hamas' retaliations may take a couple of years, doesn't mean they are not retaliations. The idea that everything that Hamas does is evil because it is unprovoked, and Israel's response is righteous because it is the retaliation, can be seen in the exact opposite light if you are on the other side. Given that Hamas' actions are always a response too (the right view is both are responding), just a slow, pre-meditated, takes a long time to get their shit together kind of a response.

I do not support Hamas. Trying to honestly understand someone isn't the same thing as taking their side. Sun Tzu said we should know our enemy.

In this 105 year long fight for land, I take nobody's side.
