I've been in Bitcoin and related since 2017 and fairly deep into it as well. The fiat systems are definitely a rich man's game. Bitcoin offers a glimmer of hope.

From the prospective of the person who has no shoes, I'm sure they feel like they are trading one master for another.

If the day ever comes when people are more focused on helping each other rather than helping themselves, then Bitcoin might shine.
