Never have, and no offense Jack, but never used twitter either.
Because it is convenient, works well, and at the moment does mot censor the journalists that I like. Just like we are still using Youtube - there still are some musicians, podcasters, etc, that are still only there. As long as we are also using Nostr, we are relatively safe. Sure it would be nice if everyone moved to Nostr already.

Because this is not yet a viable alternative for telegram features for larger communities. Can it be? Absolutely, would love to see it. We aren't there yet.

I'm using telegram cause it is not run by Facebook. Most of my friends use it, for the ones that didn't I had Twitter. Now that Twitter is dead I'm using SMS with non telegram users.

- groupchats can be splitted into topics
(can improve customer support)
- doesnt have to be verified
- can use one-time burner sim
- media and edit support, voice, video, groupcall
- can make chat be deleted after a certain timespan
only thing it's not encrypted unless enabled
that's why i use it still
and simplexchat next to that for p2p chatting (double encrypted, no user ids, no signup, can run through tor).. but that's only for super secret stuff😹

I use Telegram because it seems to be the most feature-rich messaging app available today. It enjoys enormous network effects, and the company behind it has pushed back on censorship.

I get it, the easiest explanation is that telegram got compromised (gov cooperation). But what about they Gboard or any other touch keyboard that sends everything you type for analysis to improve the usability? Aren't these companies supposed to share the data if requested by the auth?
Someone needs to make a nostr clone of telegram and call it telgram 🤣. They will never know the difference

people here are still reluctant when it comes to defend themselves against these arbitrary decisions.
I, personally, think it is a matter of time till they perceive they are being left with no alternative. The situation might get absolutely worse soon, our congressmen will be voting whether Brazilian government must be able to censor social netorks or not this week.
