I forgot to mention, those sites all have free patterns you just have to get through the blog part of it. Ravelry has a bunch of free stuff, but there are some unsavory things on it and I don't know what you need to set up an account, I did it so long ago that I just don't remember. You can filter and find what you're looking for by pattern type, yarn weight, free vs paid, etc. And I forgot about Spinayarncrochet.com Jillian has a ton of rag doll style toys, 2 panels crocheted flat then crocheted together (I've put a few up that I made). They're much easier than crocheting in the round, but more adventurous beginner than some others.
